Cebu is a province situated in the Central Visayas (Region VII) of the Philippines, comprising a primary island and 167 nearby islands and islets The coastal area of Cebu is notable for its significant marine biodiversity within the Coral Triangle. Its capital and largest city is Cebu City, known as "the Queen City of the South," and historically home to the Second Cardinal, as well as being the oldest city and former capital of the Philippines. Mandaue and Lapu-Lapu City operate independently from the provincial government. The Cebu Metropolitan Area or Metro Cebu ranks as the third largest metropolitan area in the Philippines, after Metro Manila and Metro Davao. Cebu City serves as the primary center for commerce, trade, education, and industry in the Visayas region.
